Artist of the day: Shawty
Give him a few tats and squint, and R&B singer Shawty could pass for Lil Wayne. But the resemblance isn't purely visual.
With a heavily autotuned, club-ready vibe, 21-year-old Sherrick "Shawty" Cuffie of Largo dropped his debut single, I Made It Rain, in 2009, and it got and he lets his freak flag fly on the Akon-like slow jam I'm A Beat It Up.
According to his bio, at the tender age of 10, Shawty sung at a church in Orlando while Isaac Hayes was in the audience. Now a protege of Strizzo and working with 5 O'Clock Entertainment, Shawty has recorded tracks for Rick Ross and Frank Lini and is making a bid to become Jook City's next big thing in 2010, just as Javon Black was in 2009.
