Artist of the day: Solid Core

Solid Core is a six-member cover band that bleeds funk in a very good way -- i.e. James Brown, Earth Wind and Fire, Average White Band, Sly and the Family Stone. And then there's the band's own version of James Taylor's Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight that's been blanketed with an Isley Brothers feel, some Eric Clapton-inspired riffs and an intentional, comedic twist of the lyrics.

"We all have played in a lot of different bands. We do it for the love of the music," said drummer Bill Farrell. "And with the combination I have, well, these guys can play pretty much everything — pop, funk, R&B, jazz, light. We've even done swing."

Solid Core plays from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Sam's Hudson Beach, 6325 Clark St., Hudson. For more on the band and their music, click here for Michele Miller's profile.
