Artist of the day: Soulidium

Tampa's Soulidium has made a name for themselves in the modern gothic metal scene -- thanks in no small part to the devotion singer Michael McKnight has for the craft of looking spooky. In 2008, McKnight underwent a cosmetic procedure to have vampire fangs implanted in his mouth.

The image modification game seems to be paying off. The band has a distribution deal with Warner Brothers Music, and landed a song (Trapped) on the Saw IV soundtrack. Shadow Morte (guitar), Chris Polidoro (guitar/special FX), Danny Cayocca (drums), and Jadis Lucien (bass) round out the group.

This weekend, Soulidium is playing alongside their buddies in Sevendust, Nonpoint, PsyKill, Future Leaders of the World and Soulswitch at a Guavaween concert. The free concert begins at 5 p.m. at the northeast corner of Seventh Avenue and 14th Street. Soulidium goes on at 8:45 p.m.; Sevendust goes on at 11:30 p.m. Click here for the details.

In addition, Soulidium is serving in something akin to an artistic advisory role for this year's Guavaween parade and festivities. "They agreed to let us make this an artist-driven event," McKnight said. "We've been able to bring out loads of artists. We've got some really cool stuff this year."

Including, he said, a stage show with lots of surprises. "We're getting the Vicious Angelz involved, with zombies on chains and leashes being walked by these girls. It's going to be an awesome stage show, something we've never done before. We're really going all out."

And in case you missed it, earlier this summer, Soundcheck attended the wedding of McKnight and Angelina D'Angeles, founder of It was a lovely affair.
