Artist of the day: Spirits Down
Did you go to Sunday night's Flogging Molly show at the Ritz? Are you looking forward to the Dropkick Murphys show at the Ritz on March 5? Then you might just like Spirits Down.
A bar-rattling punk band with Celtic touches, Spirits Down -- Josh Taylor on vocals, Dave Ristoff on guitar and backing vocal, Matt Dixon on mandolin, banjo, guitar and backing vocals, Steve Marks on drums and Jon Gordon on bass -- sings about hoisting beers and drinking, drinking, drinking "til you get it right." It's gutteral, party-ready punk that fans of Social Distortion might dig. They're wroking on a new full-length that they hope to release soon.
"The music styles change with each song," said Taylor. "Although we do pay homage to our Celtic roots in some songs, we attribute many styles of music to our sound, including bluegrass, country, punk rock, etc. We like to mess with all kinds of music, and this will show in the new recording."
You can catch Spirits Down this Friday, opening for Whole Wheat Bread at the State Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m.; tickets are $10. Click here for details.
