Artist of the day: Stix of Fire
Teenage pop-rock band Stix of Fire wear their allegiance to Tampa on their sleeves — “Tampa,” after all, is thought to be derived from a Calusa word meaning “sticks of fire.”
Influenced by artists like John Mayer and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, singer Nick McDonald, guitarists Cade Larson and T.J. Watts, bassist Logan Nelson and drummer D.A. Larson have played venues ranging from Curtis Hixon Park to Hard Rock Live in Orlando — they’re young, but they’ve been around more than two years — and are working on a full length album. For a taste, check out debut power-pop single Before You Know, or click here for a free download of their cover of Jason Mraz’s I Won’t Give Up.
On Saturday, Stix of Fire will perform at a benefit for Hurricane Sandy at the Ritz Ybor. Tickets are $10. Click here for details.
