Artist of the day: The Supervillains
Orlando Calling might be the biggest new music festival in Florida, but organizers aren’t overlooking the little guys. There are plenty of talented Orlando groups lined up to perform Saturday and Sunday at the Citrus Bowl. We’re spotlighting a few of them all week. Today: The Supervillains.
The biggest band in Orlando right now might be the Supervillains, a group that has become well known to local fans thanks to recent low-dough performances at Jannus Live. The five-piece ska-reggae-rockers mix high-energy covers of pop songs like George Michael’s Careless Whisper and Billy Joel’s Movin’ Out.
There’s a strong Sublime influence, but the band — led by singer-drummer Dominic Maresco and guitarist Scott “Skart” Suldo — has undeniable pop chops. They’ve been plucked to tour with and open for the likes of Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, Fishbone, Streetlight Manifesto and many more. To check out their new album, Postcards From Paradise, click here.
Currently wrapping up an East Coast tour, the Supervillains will be back in their hometown on Sunday, where they’ll perform at Orlando Calling. Look for them at 7:30 p.m. on Stage 4. Click here for the full Orlando Calling schedule.
