Artist of the day: The Toast of Tampa Show Chorus
Valentine's Day is only a week away! So let's take a day to honor the most romantic musical genre of all: Barbershop.
That's right, all you Glee fans, the Toast of Tampa Show Chorus is gearing up for one of its busiest times of the year. For some 25 years, the 100-plus-member women's show chorus has been performing barbershop music around the globe. (Fun fact: Female barbershoppers call themselves "Sweet Adelines," a nod to the most famous barbershop song of all.)
The Toast of Tampa has racked up some impressive accolades over the years, including the title of "Best in the World" at the 1993 Sweet Adelines International competition. In the barbershop community, they are highly respected around the country.
But on Valentine's Day (or in the week leading up to it, hint-hint), you can order a singing valentine from the Toast of Tampa. For $50, a quartet will deliver your loved one a singing valentine greeting, chocolates, a digital photo and card and more. And for a mere $10, they'll deliver a singing valentine by e-mail (as a digital recording) or by phone. Times are available from Feb. 12-14. Click here for all the details.
And once Valentine's Day is over, the Toast of Tampa will host its "New Member/Guest Night" at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Tampa Women's Club, 2901 Bayshore Blvd., Tampa. Click here for details.
