Artist of the day: Todd Plant
Singer and guitarist Todd Plant has his hand in a number of Tampa Bay projects, including:
-- A Santana tribute band, Supernatural
-- A Doobie Brothers tribute, Toulouse Street, which sometimes opens for Supernatural
-- A corporate big band, Bob Macar's Southtown Fever, that varies between 12 and 16 pieces.
-- A prog-rock band, Cryptic Vision, which is working on a new album for release this year
-- And he also plays solo and in a duo at many places around town, including at Tropicana Field for some Rays games.
But this weekend, he'll debut his latest project: A self-named band. The Todd Plant Band will make its debut at 1 p.m. Saturday at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in downtown Tampa for the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts. Band members include Tom Jemmott on guitar, Ashley Smith and Joanne Becker on vocals, and Dennis Mones on drums, Hiram Hazley on bass and Mark Chalisky on keys.
"We'll be playing songs from Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, Michael Bublé, Boz Scaggs, Journey, Marvin Gaye, the Beatles, Hank Williams Jr., the Temptations, the Doobie Brothers, Santana and much more," Plant says. "Oh yeah, and the art show is pretty nice, too."
