Artist of the day: Tommy Simms

He was in Disco Nap. He was in Win Win Winter. He was in Automatic Loveletter. He's in Davy and the Gods.

But before all that, he was simply Tommy Simms. Still is, as a matter of fact.

Simms has been writing songs and playing solo since 2006, but his recorded and live output was largely geared around one of his many bands. Local label 24 Hour Service Station signed him up, and Simms has been a busy man ever since.

He recently released a solo album, Then The Archers Bowed and Broke Their Bows, a collection of indie-leaning alt-rock that calls to mind My Morning Jacket, Broken Social Scene or early Radiohead.

Davy and the Gods have been busy around Tampa Bay in recent weeks. If you're interested in hearing some of Simms' solo material live, he and the band will play some songs from Then The Archers Bowed and Broke Their Bows while opening for Say Hi on Sunday at Crowbar. The show starts at 7 p.m.; tickets are $8-$10. Click here for details.
