Artist of the day: Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble

The Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble isa 60-plus-member-strong community orchestra that started in 2007 when trombonist Glenn Weatherly began organizing practices in the back room of a Hyundai dealership. Since then, the group has expanded to include members of all ages, from students to retirees, and they perform several times each year. Their fall concert calendar includes dates on Oct. 11 at the Wesley Chapel Center for the Arts and Oct. 13 at Pasco Middle School.

"It's a great stress reliever and it's a way to network and meet other people with similar interests," Weatherly said in 2011. "I was looking for a place to play and then there wasn't a whole lot in the area ... There was a community band in New Port Richey and another in Ybor City and Lakeland, too, but there was nothing local - nothing in Wesley Chapel."

The Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble was part of Michele Miller's recent story about getting involved in local community orchestras. Click here to read it.
