The Bacon Brothers coming to Sarasota and Lakeland ... but not Tampa?
So here's a head-scratcher. The Bacon Brothers, better known as the Americana-band side project of actor Kevin Bacon and his brother, Michael, are playing two concerts in and around Tampa Bay in November ... and neither show is in Hillsborough or Pinellas counties.
The Bacon Brothers will be at Sarasota's Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Nov. 20; tickets are $10-$50. That makes sense; Van Wezel occasionally lands shows that venues like Ruth Eckerd Hall, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and the Mahaffey Theater miss. (See: Boyz II Men on Oct. 30; Jewel on Nov. 4.)
The bigger surprise is that the Bacon Brothers are apparently playing a show at the Polk Theatre in Lakeland on Nov. 19. The only other semi-big-name artists with dates scheduled there are Johnny Winter (Oct. 14) and Shirley "Partridge" Jones (according to this article).
It's not like we'll be crying ourselves to sleep that Kevin Bacon has decided to skip Tampa Bay on his fall concert itinerary. It's just ... well, it's weird. When's the last time you heard of a national act playing Sarasota AND Lakeland, but skipping Tampa-St. Pete-Clearwater?
These Hollywood types. Always trying to be different.
