Blac Soap push safe sex with new 'Life Styles In The Hood' video

Tampa's otherworldly hip-hop duo Blac Soap are, it seems, getting into the after-school special game.

Just in time for World AIDS Day (which is today), Blac Soap's Seif and Fly Beads have just unveiled a new video for their song Life Styles in the Hood, advocating safe sex and preaching the dangers of STDs.

"We felt we could drop a little knowledge for the youth, and still put it in a light where it wouldn't be corny," Seif said. "We knew it was going to be a powerful video because it's promoting something powerful that hip-hop isn't really talking about right now."

The song, from their album Green Music For Blue People, is straightforward Blac Soap -- funny, poppy, danceable, heavy doses of Outkast and a little bit of Gnarls Barkley -- but the lyrics get surprisingly harrowing at times. Like these:

Staring at the mirror, scared as hell
Booty butt naked, bare and pale
Losing a lotta weight, and your hair is frail
Story that a n---- never dared to tell
Now time ticks, tick, tock
Waiting for results from the doc
What he said made your heart stop
'Cause there's no cure for what you got

The lyrical moral of the story: "She was fine as hell, but was it worth it? / 'Cause now you gotta purchase these prescriptions / It's sickening, it's an addiction."
