Blondie, Devo coming to Pinellas Park's England Brothers Bandshell Park

First it was on. Then it was off. Then the venue where it was supposed to take place announced it was shutting down.

Now, finally, it looks like Blondie and Devo are on their way back to Tampa Bay.

Knock on wood.

According to Stuck in the '80s, the two iconic New Wave groups have agreed to play Pinellas Park's England Brothers Bandshell Park on Sept. 23. Promoter Harry Tiyler of Fat Harry Productions said he's in talks to bring at least one other prominent '80s band to the bill, to make it a mini-'80s festival. Tickets will range from $14-$99, and go onsale July 13 via Ticketfly.com.

It ooked like the show was off when the Hawaiian Village decided to close its doors, and in fact Blondie and Devo were already looking at booking another gig out of town. But Tiyler said he managed to secure a date at England Brothers Bandshell Park, and the show was resurrected.

This is the second big show announcement for England Brothers Bandshell Park, which will also host Sublime With Rome, Matisyahu, Dirty Heads and other bands on Sept. 1. (Interestingly, that show was also scheduled for another venue -- Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg -- before it was moved to Pinellas Park.)

Tiyler, who has also booked shows at Jannus Live and the Ritz Ybor, said he's in negotiations with other bands to play yet another outdoor venue somewhere in Tampa Bay, though he wouldn't specify where. For now, he's confident England Brothers Bandshell Park, and the Blondie/Devo show in particular, will be a big success.

"The public will support this venue if you give them a good show," he said. "If the weather's perfect, for $14, why shouldn't that show do 6,000 people? That's such a great deal."
