Blues legend Eddie Kirkland dies in car crash following Dunedin concert

Tragic news to report from the world of Florida music: According to the Associated Press, Blues legend Eddie Kirkland died following a car crash Sunday in Crystal River, hours after a concert in Dunedin.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said Kirkland, 88, tried to make a U-turn on U.S. 98 at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday when his car was struck by a bus. He was flown to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died.

Known as the "Gypsy of the Blues," Kirkland was a tourmate of John Lee Hooker and bandleader for Otis Redding, and he performed with the likes of Little Richard and Muddy Waters.

Kirkland's final performance was Saturday night, when he headlined Dunedin Brewery's Stogies & Stouts festival. Were any of you readers there? What can you share about Kirkland's last performance? Please leave your memories in the comments.
