Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, Papa Roach, P.O.D. coming to the Stadium Green Iguana in Tampa

This show threw us for a major loop the second we heard it.

The 2011 Rock Allegiance Tour -- featuring such modern alternative hitmakers as Buckcherry (above), Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, P.O.D. and more -- is coming to Tampa on Labor Day, Sept. 5. What's most amazing is the concert venue: The Stadium Green Iguana on Dale Mabry Highway.

Granted, the Green Iguana is starting to prove its mettle as an entertainment mecca -- it's home to the Hawaiian Village, which hosts the weekly South Beach Sundays parties, and has hosted concerts by Paul Oakenfold and Ziggy Marley.

But the Rock Allegiance Tour is a totally different beast. In other cities, it's playing at arenas and amphitheatres, not combo tiki bar/swimming pool/motels a few blocks from the Mons Venus.

How did this happen?

Credit Harry Tiyler of Fat Harry Productions, who booked the show. His company also had the Ziggy Marley concert, which drew about 1,500 people to the Green Iguana. He believes that the club can become something Tampa hasn't had in a long time -- a general-admission concert venue with a capacity of about 2,900.

"It's basically a large courtyard, similar to Jannus," said Tiyler. "We're trying to develop this new venue now, and we'll see where it goes."

Tiyler said he has about a dozen possible shows in the works. This one is a bit of a gamble -- it's a huge rock tour in a relatively unproven venue -- but if it goes well, it could open the door for more shows in the rock/reggae/alternative genre.

And hey, it's a Labor Day show. "People can get their drink on, get some sun, have some fun," Tiyler said.

Tickets for the concert -- which also features Drive A, Crossfade and Red -- are on sale now for $29.50. Click here to get 'em, or visit the Stadium Green Iguana yourself to buy without a service charge.
