Chelsea Handler coming to the Straz Center in Tampa
We must say, this is becoming a big day for gay icons in Tampa Bay. First Christina Aguilera announces a concert at the Ford Amphitheatre in August. Now we're learning that late-night TV dish diva Chelsea Handler is coming to Tampa as well.
Handler -- who might just be the most reliable hot ticket in comedy not named Dane Cook -- will bring her "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang" tour to Carol Morsani Hall at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts on Oct. 23. Tickets are $62.50, and they'll go onsale at noon Friday. Click here for details.
While some might argue that her E! show, Chelsea Lately, is basically the televised equivalent of watching bunch of catty, bitter B-listers rifling through the latest issue of Us Weekly (but not us! we would never say that! please don't have us killed, Chelsea!), the show's success has made her a household name, enabling her to sell out shows coast to coast and land three books at the top of the New York Times Bestseller list. So popular is Handler that a spinoff tour, "The Comedians of Chelsea Lately," is also a hugely successful road act. Apparently, if it's got Handler's name on it, it's gold.
When it comes to late-night pop-culture snark, however, were always in the Best Week Ever camp. So let us know when Paul F. Tompkins comes to town.
