Citizen Cope coming to Jannus Live
Like Ben Harper and Everlast, folk-funk-soul singer-guitarist Citizen Cope isn't really our cup of Arizona Pomegranate Green Tea, but damn if homeboy hasn't built himself a following over the past few years. As Soundcheck's own Carole Liparoto found, he certainly made a few fans at Bonnaroo 2009:
His sport coat suggested an after-church session. He opened with Hurricane Waters, where he sang and gestured to the crowd that he’d carry them through the hurricane waters to bluer skies. His mumbly Southern inflection was offset by crisp beats and a thriving organ. On Bullet and a Target, his biggest hit to date, Cope faux-rapped about people in difficult predicaments (drug abuse, teen pregnancy, etc.), which garnered enthusiasm from the crowd.
Yeah, crowds love teen pregnancy! If you want to see what all the Citizen Cope hype is about, the D.C. artist be coming to Jannus Landing on June 4 -- another one of the venue's nice summer gets. Tickets are $21.50. Click here to purchase.
