Collective Soul to headline Gasparilla Pirate Fest

Remember the '90s, when Collective Soul was the most popular band in the world? You couldn't go out in public without hearing Shine or The World I Know or December,or seeing teenage girls in their Ed Roland T-shirts, or hearing "Soulheads" go on and on about how their favorite band would be bigger than Jesus forever.

Okay, fine, perhaps we're misremembering things just a little bit. We can get that way sometimes, whenever we reminisce about mid-'90s radio rock.

Collective Soul will headline the 2009 Gasparilla Pirate Fest with a performance Jan. 30 in Curtis Hixon Park along downtown Tampa's waterfront. (We assume Tonic and the Verve Pipe were booked elsewhere that day.) Click here for the details.

But that's not all; oh, no, far from it. The Collective Soul concert, sponsored by Mix 100.7, is only one of three musical events that will take place all that Saturday in and around downtown Tampa. Two other stages are in the works: A 98 Rock stage at the Hyatt Regency, and a 93.3-FLZ stage at the Bayshore Publix.

The acts for those stages haven't been an announced, but based on this Collective Soul news, we're already getting our hopes up. Might we see an appearance by Dishwalla? Dog's Eye ViewPrimitive Radio Gods? Vertical HorizonDeadeye Dick? We're giddy about the possibilities!
