Coming next week: tbt*'s 2010 Ultimate Local Music Guide!

Hey, so check it: Next week, March 16 to be exact, Soundcheck turns 1 year old. Precocious little scamps, ain't we?

But more importantly, next week is tbt*'s fourth annual 2010 Ultimate Local Music Guide. It's one of our favorite issues of the year -- we profile 10 of our favorite local artists from the past year, plus another 100-150 that we think deserve a shout-out in print. You know the Artist of the Day that we post here on Soundcheck every morning? It's kind of like that, but in paper form. You remember paper, don't you kids?

Each year, there are so many bands worth featuring that narrowing it down to 10 is a near-impossible task. But we always seem to come up with an awesome list. For the past three years, we've held a concert featuring some of our Ultimate Local Artists (click here to read about last year's show), and it's always an excellent event. We're planning another one this year -- as well as a contest where you, the listener, can win fabulous, marvelous prizes.

Next week we'll begin unveiling our 2010 Ultimate Local Artists, two each day, until the Local Music Guide comes out on Friday. For now, let's gaze back in slack-jawed wonder at tbt*'s Ultimate Local Artists from years past:

2009: The Beauvilles, Geri X., the Basiqs, Will Quinlan and the Diviners, Select Start, Tailgunner Joe and the Earls of Slander, Have Gun, Will Travel, Bluegrass Parlor Band, Triptico and Magadog.

2008: Aych, Bird Street Players, Blind Buddy Moody, Pseudo Heroes, Rebekah Pulley, Red Room Cinema, Tres Bien, November Foxtrot Whiskey, Win Win Winter and Zillionaire. (Click here to read the full 2008 Ultimate Local Music Guide)

2007: Breakdown, Urbane Cowboys, Giddy-up, Helicopter!, Tribal Style, Trace of Day, Heroine, Soulfound, Lush Progress, D'Visitors, Candy Bars, Dumbwaiters and the Tim Version. (Click here to read the full 2007 Ultimate Local Music Guide.)
