Coming Saturday: Check out six of Tampa Bay's best bands at tbt*'s Ultimate Music Showcase
We hand-picked the 10 bands in this year's Ultimate Local Music Guide, and are thrilled that six of them could perform Saturday. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. at Skipper's, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa. Tickets are $5 advance until midnight Friday; $10 at the door. Get 'em at Skipper's Web site.
Here's the lineup once again, with set times and a few mp3s to help jog your memory of why these bands are so awesome:
-- The Jim Morey Band (6:40 p.m.): A quirky jazz-folk quartet whose sound ranges from swing to dixieland to pop.
-- King of Spain (7:40 p.m.): An intimate Tampa bedroom-pop project that has landed a gig two straight years at Austin’s South By Southwest Music Festival.
-- The Grecian Urns (8:35 p.m.): Six college-age Pinellas friends and siblings who specialize in delicate indie-folk harmonies.
-- The Semis (9:30 p.m.): A St. Petersburg garage-rock band that released a sunny, career-best album, Back to the Beach, in 2009.
-- GreyMarket (10:25 p.m.): Two Tampa musicians who create an arena-rock-sized sound and spectacle through a guitar, a drum and a laptop.
-- Sons of Hippies (above, 11:20 p.m.): This Sarasota trio serves up a sexy blend of psychedelic alt-rock.
Look forward to seeing you there!
