Coming Sunday: Less Than Jake play a free show in St. Petersburg

What do you do when you're an Irish bar, and you need to drum up business, but St. Patrick's Day is still six months away?

Easy: You throw a "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day" party. And you invite one of Florida's biggest punk bands to put on a free concert.

Gainesville's Less Than Jake will headline the free show Sunday (9/5) outside Durty Nelly's, 149 First Ave. N, St. Petersburg. It runs noon to 11 p.m., and also features the Supervillains, as well as a solid lineup of local acts: Unmotivated, Burning Tree, Josh Magwood Band, Anchor Atlantic, Southside Serenade and Washed Up Hacks.

The show is free, but VIP tickets will be available at the bar for $40 or so. The details of what that money gets you are sketchy (seriously, Durty Nelly's doesn't even have a working phone number), but a flyer in the window of the bar says you'll get backstage access, a possible meet and greet, four free drinks, free food, a VIP bar and an up-close-and-personal viewing area for the show. Oh, and "access to non-heated jacuzzis located side stage," whatever that means. (Does anyone really want to share a non-heated jacuzzi with Vinny Fiorello?)

And hey, if you read tbt*'s recent 2010 Ultimate Bar Guide, you know Durty Nelly's is crazy popular with the down 'n' durty college kids. Click here to read about their Wednesday $2 pitcher specials.
