Concert of the day: 1997 at Transitions Art Gallery
Chicago group 1997 bring a multi-instrumental approach to pop rock, with anthemic, but not overbearing, hooks and songs involving harmonicas, accordians and glockenspiels. The give-and-take of singers Kevin Thomas and Arthi Meera is ever so twee, but never grating.
Coming with them are fellow up-with-people midwesterners That Was Something from Detroit, a catchy group that calls to mind a sunnier Panic at the Disco. Also playing: Set and Setting and Tampa's No Inside.
It's an early show, at 7 p.m., so get there posthaste. Tickets are $8. Transitions Art Gallery is located at 4215 E Columbus Drive in Tampa.
