Concert of the day: New World Brewery's 14th Anniversary Party
It's time to give it up for one of the best music bars in town. New World Brewery is celebrating its 14th anniversary with a free concert tonight by Nervous Turkey and DJ Brian Oblivion. Go pour yourself one of their many great beers (sorry, Simpsons fans, the Duff signs are only decorations) and enjoy some cool tunes.
Nervous Turkey uses punk to rough up the blues and finishes it off with Tom Waits gruff to make it a touch disturbing. The fowl-mouthed trio from Tampa has become known for fierce performances that attract the hardiest of rockers and boozehounds. They draw influences from Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Captain Beefheart and Butthole Surfers. With Ernie Locke (above) on vocals, harmonica and guitar, Aaron Fowler on drums and Mark Cunningham on organ, the released their first LP, Fat Boy Likes to Roll, in August. The CD release show was held -- where else? -- at New World Brewery.
