With concerts by Barenaked Ladies, Dave Matthews Band, 311, Blues Traveler and more, '90s rock is back in Tampa Bay

You're reading the words of a guy who has vociferously defended '90s music at every turn. A guy who has seen Third Eye Blind in concert on five separate occasions. A guy who, this very week, got excited when he found out Our Lady Peace was back on tour.

So the coming week of shows at the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre brings a smile to my face. On Tuesday, '90s rockers Barenaked Ladies, Blues Traveler (above), Cracker and Big Head Todd and the Monsters will be in Tampa. On July 18, it'll be Dave Matthews Band. On July 20, it's 311. Other bands with varying degrees of connection to the '90s -- Slipknot, Train, Slightly Stoopid -- will be in town in the next week and a half, too.

And that's not all. Looking at the upcoming Tampa Bay concert calendar, you can see shows by Bush, Fiona Apple, Weezer, Built to Spill, Sublime With Rome, The Toadies, Helmet and, down the line, Eddie Vedder. If only the Summerland Tour -- with Everclear, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms, Marcy Playground and Lit -- were coming to Tampa Bay! Alas, it'll only come as far as Atlanta this weekend. (Anyone up for a road trip?)

This sudden revival of radio rock from the '90s may come as a surprise to critics who've always found it lightweight and forgettable, a vanilla imitation of everything that came earlier (Nirvana, Pixies) or later (Strokes, White Stripes). But like it or not, it's real. I, for one, couldn't be happier.

Click here for my full story about the '90s music revival going on in Tampa Bay and across the nation. And here's a bonus for you diehard '90s fans: At the top of that story, I share a few songs from a mixtape I made in 1997, including Blues Traveler’s Run-Around, Dave Matthews Band’s Crash Into Me and 311’s Down. After the jump, I will share the ENTIRE tracklist from that mixtape.

Make with the clicky-clicky. You know you want to.
