Constantine Maroulis, 'Jeykll & Hyde,' to kick off Straz Center's 2012-13 Broadway series; 'American Idiot' coming in 2013

Constantine Maroulis is filling in for Sebastian Bach. Seems about right, doesn't it?

The American Idol also-ran -- who became a Tony-nominated stage star thanks to Rock of Ages, in a role he reprised at Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall last year -- will bring his Broadway chops back to Tampa Bay this fall in the musical Jekyll & Hyde, the first show on the calendar for the Straz Center's 2012-13 calendar.

Maroulis will play the title role(s), which have been filled over the years by the former Skid Row frontman and David Hassellhoff, among others. The production runs Oct. 23-28 in Tampa. Click here for details. Following its 30-city nationwide tour, Jekyll & Hyde will go to Broadway with Maroulis starring.

Our esteemed colleague John Fleming has the scoop on the rest of the Straz's 2012-13 Broadway series, which will also feature the Green Day musical American Idiot from May 17-19, plus shows like Sister Act, Elf the Musical and Flashdance: The Musical.

And for all you South Park fans, we found this tidbit enticing: The Book of Mormon is aiming for a tour in 2013-14, and will likely have a run in Tampa. Squee!
