Controversial Buju Banton concert moved to the Cuban Club

Buju Banton couldn't get a gig at the Ritz Ybor. He couldn't even get a gig at Jannus Landing. Now he's apparently heading back to another well-known Ybor City venue.

The controversial reggae singer is now booked to perform at the Cuban Club at 9 p.m. Oct. 30, according to Ticketmaster. Tickets are still $30; existing tickets will still be honored. Wayne Wonder will open.

The backstory: Gay and lesiban advocates are protesting Banton shows across the country due to the homophobic message of his song Boom Bye Bye. Banton was originally booked to perform at the Ritz Ybor, but the venue canceled the show over the controversy, and Banton moved to Jannus Landing.

Then, as new owners were eyeing Jannus Landing, word got out that Jannus had ditched Banton, too. Promoter Peter "Mr. CC" Samms vowed to find Banton another venue; now it seems he's found one one.

The weird thing about the Cuban Club -- aside from the fact that it's situated in the heart of GaYbor, right up the street from G. Bar -- is that it's the home of WMNF's Tropical Heatwave, one of the most liberal, hippie-friendly fests in Tampa Bay. Seems an odd choice for a gig like this.

Somehow we think this controversy isn't over just yet.
