Could Tampa's Lilith Fair tour date be canceled?
Here's some potentially devastating news we definitely were not expecting today: Tampa's Lilith Fair tour stop on Aug. 11 might be canceled.
According to the Toronto Globe and Mail, the reincarnated Lilith Fair has seen softer-than-expected ticket sales, and shows in Nashville and Phoenix have been canceled. The paper also reported that Norah Jones, above, has scrapped all of her dates -- Tampa, West Palm Beach, Houston, Dallas and Birmingham, Ala. (Although they're still listed on Jones' website, and she's still listed on Lilith's Tampa site.)
“Norah was prepared to do all the Lilith dates she was contracted for and then those dates were cancelled,” her manager, Sam Feldman, told the Globe and Mail.
Said Lilith Fair co-founder Terry McBride, also to the Globe and Mail: "We have canceled nothing at this time. We review our sales on a weekly basis. If we cancel any more, we will announce accordingly."
This is, to say the least, a shocking development. We called reps from both Lilith Fair and Live Nation, and both said they were scrambling to get more information from the tour's higher-ups, who are on the road.
We're frankly not sure how this could be possible. We here at SoundcheckCorp. have been excited about Lilith Fair 2010 since the day it was announced. Granted, the Tampa lineup could have been a little edgier, but still, we were all set to groove out to Jones, Sarah McLachlan, Erykah Badu, Court Yard Hounds, Sia, Martina McBride and more. We bought our tickets just last week, when Live Nation offered them as a $10 ticket deal.
As of this post, tickets are still on sale for Tampa's Lilith Fair date. But we will definitely update you as soon as we know more.
