Dave Matthews Band coming to the Ford Amphitheatre

Surprise, surprise: Dave Matthews Band is playing a summer concert at the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa.

Just like they did in 2009. And 2008. And 2007. And 2006. And 2005. And 2004. (Look, why don't we just name it the Dave Matthews Amphitheatre and get it over with, okay?)

Dave and Co. will be at the Ford Amphitheatre on July 28, according to the band's Web site, to be followed by two dates in West Palm Beach. And if you thought the hippies were out in full force last year, get a load of this: The opening act is Gov't Mule. The local weed industry might shut down entirely in anticipation of this show.

For all you hardcore fans, presale tickets go onsale Thursday. For the rest of you, tickets go onsale Feb. 26.

Some of you may recall that Soundcheck attended last summer's Dave Matthews Band gig at the Ford Amphitheatre. Here's what we said then:

Balding and stubbly-chinned, Dave can still break into his trademark white-man’s shuffle when he feels like it. Some of his band's songs Wednesday night (opener Funny The Way It Is, One Sweet World, Seven) were funky-smelling rockers, and he snarled and yelped his way through them all.

But then he went and got all soft on us during the encore, with the lovely, acoustic Baby Blue, and we all remembered that Dave can still write a mean pop lullaby, too.
