Dolly Parton coming to Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater

The last time we saw Dolly Parton in Tampa Bay ... well, we didn't really see Dolly Parton.

Last fall, tbt*'s John Fleming caught up with Dolly as her stage production, 9 to 5: The Musical, hit the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. She talked about the difference between writing for Broadway and writing country standards:

"On Broadway, usually those people are trained singers,'' she said. "They read music, and they perform with that in mind. With country singers, most of us don't know our ass from a bucket. I know, for me, I just sing from my gut. I don't know one note from the other. I do not read music, and I think that's true of most country singers.''

This is why we love Dolly. And why we're so glad she's coming back to Tampa Bay for the first time since 2008.

The country queen will perform at Ruth Eckerd Hall on Oct. 15, according to the venue. Tickets are $65-$175. Click here for details.

Throw in an upcoming show by Loretta Lynn (Dec. 9 in Lakeland) and we're looking at the makings of a solid autumn of classic country queens. Hey, Wanda Jackson, howzaboutta trip down our way?
