Durty Nelly's moving from Central Avenue to BayWalk

Durty Nelly's isn't exactly a rock venue -- although they did host an Authority Zero concert last fall -- but it is a familiar bar for rock fans, thanks to its dirt-cheap drink specials, DJ nights and especially its proximity to the State Theatre.

Now Durty Nelly's has found a new home near BayWalk.

Its new home at 149 First Ave. N includes wood paneling, cork flooring and a cork-lined bar left behind by Tastings, a wine bar that departed more than a year ago. The bar’s neighbors include Starbucks, the Atlanta Bread Co. and the soon-to-be revamped Jannus Landing.

Co-owners Stephen Smith, 29, and Mike Pestke, 32, former employees of Jannus Landing, signed an eight-year lease and plan to open Friday. Smith said the new Durty Nelly's hopes to host live music, including (they hope) a possible outdoor concert for St. Patrick's Day.

All of a sudden, within the last month, the Jannus block has once again become a cool drinking destination in its own right, concerts be damned. You've got the reopened Pelican Pub, the swankily reinvented Bishop Tavern and now Durty Nelly's, not to mention Vintage Ultra Lounge.

Meanwhile, with the closing of the Garage Bar, this might mean Fubar could become the default post-concert drinking destination for State Theatre crowds.
