Epcot Food and Wine Festival 2011: Gin Blossoms, Sugar Ray, Richard Marx lead concert lineup

None of us were really expecting Walt Disney World to reinvent the wheel when it comes to the "Eat to the Beat" concert lineup for the annual Epcot Food and Wine Festival, running Sept. 30 to Nov. 13. The festival always hews toward family-friendly pop, rock and R&B acts, with only a light dusting of edge anywhere near the proceedings. The Mouse wants cheese, and it assumes you do, too.
But even taking all that into consideration ... wow, is this year's lineup uninspiring.
Nothing against the acts themselves, but it's practically a carbon copy of last year's lineup. The only new additions are Gin Blossoms (above), the Pointer Sisters, Richard Marx, Roger Hodgson of Supertramp and The Orchestra (featuring members of ELO, but somehow, we suspect, not Jeff Lynne). The rest of the acts -- Taylor Dayne, .38 Special, Jon Secada, Billy Ocean, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, Sugar Ray, Howard Jones, Boyz II Men, Sister Hazel, Hanson, Night Ranger, Air Supply and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) -- all performed last year.
Again: Not passing judgment on these artists (we got that out of our system last year). It's just: Why book almost exactly the same lineup year after year? Universal Orlando's concert organizers are booking circles around Disney these days.
