Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump coming to Orpheum in Tampa
This is a newsworthy concert announcement in and of itself. But the fact that it's the splashiest show thus far to hit the new and improved Orpheum in Ybor City makes it all the more intriguing.
According to Rolling Stone and his own website, Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump is embarking on a solo tour that'll hit Orpheum on Aug. 21.
Details are scant; we know nothing yet of tickets. We'll update you when we hear something.
***UPDATE*** Tickets are $20.50, and opening the show will be John West and Wynter Gordon. Click here.
While Pete Wentz was definitely the biggest rock star in Fall Out Boy, most critics would argue that Stump's soulful warble provided the heart of the group's sound. And the band has a long, long history in Tampa Bay, first signing to then-Tampa-based label Fueled By Ramen and playing larger and larger venues around the area almost every year. In 2009 alone, Fall Out Boy played three times in Tampa and St. Petersburg (see here, here and here).
Stump may not dip into the Fall Out Boy catalog for this unexpectedly intimate gig. Instead, look for songs from his long-gestating solo album, Soul Punk, and some cover songs. Come on, Love Lockdown!
