Funk Fest lineup: Anthony Hamilton, Keyshia Cole, Salt-n-Pepa coming to Curtis Hixon Park in Tampa
This year's Funk Fest is shaking things up.
The annual soul, funk and R&B festival is moving from Vinoy Waterfront Park in St. Petersburg to Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa on May 3-4. Soulman Anthony Hamilton, R&B diva Keyshia Cole and early-'90s hip-hop icons Salt-n-Pepa lead the initial lineup, and they'll be joined by Doug E. Fresh, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Jagged Edge and SOS Band. More artists are expected to be added.
But the bigger news, of course, is Funk Fest's migration across the bay, which could be a good thing for an event that can't seem to shake its troublesome rep. The first Funk Fest was, by all accounts, a flaming hot mess. El Debarge dropped out of 2011's event. And last year, headliner Erykah Badu arrived an hour and a half late and played a shortened set.
General admission tickets are $40 per day or $65 for both days; preferred/reserved tickets (which include seating) are $70/$125; VIP tickets are $90/$140. Click here for details.
