Gasparilla Music Festival: Best Coast, Meter Men with Page McConnell added to lineup
The Gasparilla Music Festival has taken its sweet time revealing the lineup for its second annual event, coming March 9 to Curtis Hixon Park. But with every announcement, we keep getting more and more excited.
Indie-rock darlings Best Coast and jam-funk supergroup The Meter Men with Page McConnell have been added to the top of the bill, along with New Orleans roots-rockers The Iguanas, Tampa bluegrass outfit the Applebutter Express and singer-songwriter Damion Suomi.
Best Coast is a hot name in indie surf-rock; singer Bethany Cosentino blends sunny, '60s style vocals and hooks with garage-punk riffs. (Their show last summer at the Social in Orlando was one of Soundcheck's best concerts of 2012.)
But the Meter Men might be the biggest coup for certain fans -- it's essentially three-fourths of seminal New Orleans funk giants The Meters (guitarist Leo Nocentelli, drummer Zigaboo Modeliste and bassist George Porter Jr.) accompanied by world-class organist McConnell, who's one-fourth of jam-band titans Phish. So big is the buzz around these guys that the upcoming Nolafunk Jazzfest added a second show by them after the first one sold out in 8 hours.
