Henry Rollins coming to the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater

When's the last time a punk icon, actor, activist and spoken-word hero decided to perform in downtown Clearwater?

That's where Henry Rollins will be next spring, when he brings his next spoken-word tour to Clearwater's Capitol Theatre at 8 p.m. March 2. Tickets are $29.50, and they go onsale this Friday at noon.

Slowly but surely, the Capitol Theatre -- which is operated by Ruth Eckerd Hall -- is gaining steam in the local concert universe. Paula Cole, Amos Lee and Irish soul ingenue Laura Izibor are among the acts who've played there in recent months, and Brandi Carlile, Steven Wright, Richie Havens and now the former Black Flag frontman are all coming in 2010. It's a nice dose of modern culture for an area that certainly needed it.
