Jeff Daniels coming to the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater

Well, we have a clear front-runner in our race for 2011's coveted Soundcheck WTF Concert of the Year Award.

Jeff Daniels, the Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for such films as Dumb and Dumber, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Gettysburg, The Squid and the Whale and one of Soundcheck's personal all-time favorite movies, Speed, is coming to the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater on Jan. 15. He will be singing and playing a guitar. This is all happening.

Daniels' guitar-based music has garnered comparisons to Lyle Lovett, and there's a good reason for his decision to branch into music. For years, he has performed concerts to raise money for his Michigan theater company, The Purple Rose. He has four CDs, including 2009's Live at the Purple Rose Theatre.

"Unlike Broadway where the play is pretty much the same every night, the exciting thing about doing this show is embracing the unpredictability of it," Daniels said in a statement released by Ruth Eckerd Hall. "It makes playing live alive. Audiences feed off the excitement in that."

THIS audience member still feeds off the excitement created by Daniels and Keanu Reeves in Speed. But we're still interested in this show, however WTFy it is.Tickets are $36.50-$50, and they go onsale Friday. Click here for details.
