Jonathan Coulton coming to Nova 535 in St. Petersburg

Normally, we would yawn at the news that a bearded Brooklyn singer-songwriter is coming to St. Petersburg -- at least, until Sufjan Stevens grows a beard, that is.

But when the bearded Brooklyn singer-songwriter in question is Jonathan Coulton -- artiste and noted friend and comic foil of author and "I'm a PC" pitchman John Hodgman -- we must make an exception.

According to his Web site, Coulton is performing with fellow folk comics Paul and Storm on Jan. 15 at Nova 535 in St. Petersburg. Tickets are $22. Click here for details.

Coulton frequently pops up in Hodgman's The Areas of My Expertise and More Information Than You Require, and he co-hosted the audio recording of the former, making him something of a cult figure among literary hipsters, as well as fans of dry comedy, tweed jackets and hobo matters.

Nova 535 is an unusual venue for the show, but hey, at least the bathrooms are nice. Nova's Michael S. Novilla says they plan to book more shows there in 2010; it'll be very interesting to see how that goes. (If you're desperate to see Coulton in a more traditional concert setting, he'll also be at the Social in Orlando on Jan. 14.)

That is all.
