Is Kenny Chesney coming to Raymond James Stadium in 2011?

This item might have slipped by your radar. It certainly slipped by ours, probably because the item, from the St. Pete Times on April 21, didn't make it online. So we'll reprint it in full here:

Fans of Kenny Chesney are about to learn how forever feels. The Tampa Sports Authority is negotiating with the country music star's representatives for a show at Raymond James Stadium -- in March 2011. Sports Authority members gave their tentative blessing Monday (April 19) to committing $3.5 million in guarantees to Chesney and the opening act, as well as for expenses. The authority's staff estimates it will need to sell 35,000 tickets to break even. He sold a little more than that during a 2006 concert at Raymond James.

So yeah, that's a big deal. Chesney's last RayJay concert brought Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich and Dierks Bentley to town. How does he top that lineup?

TSA spokeswoman Barbara Casey said Monday that negotiations are ongoing with both Chesney's people and Tampa and Hillsborough County governments. Nothing's signed yet, she said, but at this point, things are looking good. We'll keep you posted when we hear something official.

If the show happens, it might not be the only high-profile gig for Chesney in early 2011. Word is he's on the short list of potential halftime performers for Super Bowl XLV in Dallas. There's even a Facebook group demanding him.
