Labor Day weekend music: Buckcherry, Coolio, Ferry Corsten and more

The summer of Party Rock Anthem and T.G.I.F. may be over, but it’s not going out with a whimper. Clubs and concert venues all over Tampa Bay are cranking things up to full volume this weekend. Here’s a look at some of the best music taking place around Tampa Bay this Labor Day weekend. Click the links for more info.

Three huge hard rock and metal festivals highlight the weekend in rock 'n’ roll. First is the Uproar Festival at the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre, with Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, Seether, Bullet For My Valentine, Escape The Fate, Black Tide, Art of Dying and Hell or Highwater. On Sunday, head to Durty Nelly's in downtown St. Pete for a daylong "Half Way to St. Patty's Day" music festival featuring a ton of local bands and one national headliner: Ride to California rockers Paper Tongues. Then on Monday, head to the Stadium Green Iguana for the Rock Allegiance Tour, featuring Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, P.O.D., Red, Crossfade and Drive A.

DJs will be huge this weekend, too. On Friday, there’s Dutch superstar Ferry Corsten, above, at the Amphitheatre in Ybor City, and Swedish DJs Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso at the Venue in Clearwater. Also on Friday, dance-pop performer Adam Tyler will be at the Honey Pot in Ybor City. On Saturday, you can get all sudsy at the fourth Summer Foam Party at Jannus Live, and on Sunday, check out dozens of DJs at the Neon Xtreme party at the Ritz Ybor in Ybor City.

Everywhere you look, rappers are invading local clubs. Things get kicking with Juvenile at Scene Premium Nightclub on Thursday night. But the big names this weekend are Coolio and Slick Rick, headlining the annual “Old Skool Weekend” on Sunday at Shephard’s Beach Resort in Clearwater Beach. Other acts to look out for include Mims (Friday, Jackson’s Bistro, Tampa) Plies (Saturday, Club Underground, Tampa), Bobby Valentino (Sunday, Vanity Ultra Lounge, Tampa) and Gunplay (Sunday, Scene Premium Nightclub, St. Petersburg).

For more on all of these shows, check back here at noon Thursday for our weekly "This week in Tampa..." concert picks.
