Lauris Vidal to record next album live on WMNF

Daytona Beach's Lauris Vidal has developed quite a following in these parts for his banjo-driven alt-folky ballads and bar-rockers. So he'll probably have more than a few Tampa Bay music fans tuning in when he visits the WMNF-88.5 FM studios for a spot on Sonic Detour, hosted by our old friend Duncan Strauss.

However, this isn't your everyday in-studio gig. Vidal and his band -- bassist Roberto Aguilar and drummer Billy Dean -- will actually use his time in the booth to record a live album on the air.

In an e-mail announcing the performance, Vidal said he's been writing material for a new album, and that most of whatever is being recorded on Wednesday "will end up on the album." So in a way, you can consider Wednesday's show a very, very advance listening party for Vidal's next CD.

The recording starts at 5 p.m. sharp on Wednesday. Click here for all the details on the WMNF performance.

If you want to see Vidal in person, you can do so this Saturday, when he performs at Have Gun, Will Travel's CD release party at 8 p.m. at New World Brewery in Ybor City. Click here for details.
