Lil Jon talks 'Chappelle's Show,' Twitter, the evolution of crunk and more
Lil Jon became a walking caricature when Dave Chappelle lampooned his one-word exclamations ("WHAT?" "YEAAAH!" OH-KAYYYY!" on Chappelle's Show. But ever since, through stints on Celebrity Apprentice and DJ sets around the country, he's ben out to prove he's more than just a crunk novelty.
"I don't even consider myself a crunk artist no more," said Lil Jon, who performs a DJ set at the Hard Rock Cafe in Tampa on Friday. "I can get on any kind of track and make people have a good time. I'm the guy who gets the party started. You grow, times change, music evolves. I play for the people. If they want to hear more commercial pop, I'll play a little. If they're into dubstep, I'll play some dubstep."
Lil Jon's DJ set with D. Seven and VJ Kidd Leow starts at 11 p.m. Friday at the Hard Rock Cafe inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Tickets are $20-$30, 21 and up. Call (866) 502-7529 or visit rocktampa.com.
