Is Lil Wayne coming to Tampa Pro 2012 this weekend at the Skatepark of Tampa?

We've been burned before by false reports that Lil Wayne is coming to Tampa. But this time, the word is coming directly from Weezy himself, so color us officially intrigued.

In the latest installment of the rapper's "Weezy's Sports Corner Skate News" video, Lil Wayne says he plans to drop in on the Skatepark of Tampa this weekend for Tampa Pro 2012. (Skip to 1:31 in the video above.)

Responding to a fan's question about whether he'd ever been to a skateboarding competition, Weezy says:

I plan on going to my first competition this year, and that might be next week at Tampa Pro. ... It’s like one of the biggest skate compeititons ever. If you don’t know what Tampa Pro is, you’re crazy. If you’re a skater, I’m quite sure you do know. Hopefully I’ll be going there, and that’ll be my first skate competition I see, and I hope to have a great time there, and I hope to enjoy myself. Shout out to all the skaters that’s gonna be in the competition at Tampa Pro. Do it big, man.

Weezy isn't just blowing smoke -- he really does love the Skatepark of Tampa. You might recall that he stopped by the Skatepark last August following his concert at the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre for a late-night (3 to 5 a.m.) private skate session. Later that month, he was injured while skateboarding at another park in St. Louis. So the dude loves to shred. "See you here, Tunechi, we got a spot on deck for you," the bros at SPoT write on their blog.

Even if Weezy doesn't show up, Tampa Pro 2012 will be a huge event. Pro skateboarders Ryan Sheckler and Paul Rodriguez Jr. are expected to turn out. Click here for all the details on Tampa Pro 2012.

Now, what we'd REALLY like to see is Lil Wayne dropping by Orpheum Friday night to jam with the Black Lips at the SPoT's Tampa Pro Party. Talk about shredding.

If we hear any more details about Lil Wayne's possible arrival in Tampa, we'll let you know.
