Live from Bonnaroo: Catching up with some fans from Tampa Bay
Meet some of the many faces in the Bonnaroo crowd, including a few folks who made the trip from Tampa Bay.
Felicia Ogilby, 26, Apollo Beach
Real-world gig: Full time freelance artist -- metal work, sketching and painting.
Miscellaneous: Hadn’t listened to a lot of the artists before, so spent time downloading to get prepared (kind of like cramming for a test).
Bonnaroo faves: Citizen Cope
Bonnaroo thoughts: “Good exposure for me as an artist.” (She’s displaying art at her campsite, but you can check it out at reflectionscollections.com.)
Tommy Aubrey, 27, Tampa
Real-world gig: Carpentery by day, Hess station attendant in the evenings.
Miscellaneous: Attending with his fianc?© ‚Äì first time in a long time that they‚Äôll be vacationing without their two-year-old daughter. She‚Äôs staying at ‚Äúnannas and duddas.‚Äù
Bonnaroo faves: Phish, Yeasayer, Band of Horses, Nine Inch Nails, Portugal the Man
Bonnaroo thoughts: Bonnaroo is almost like a revival, he says. “It’s a life-changing experience … and you get a better view of who you are.”
Tim Ritter, 29, Tampa
Real-world gig: He was laid off at his job as a funeral home transporter and his wife was laid off at JP Morgan Chase. Now works at his Mom’s deli in downtown Tampa.
Miscellaneous: Third-time attendee. Loves Manchester. “The heartland is so beautiful and calm,” he says. “When you wait in line for Bonnaroo, it’s an experience in itself -- people throw frisbees, and drum circles line the road.”
Bonnaroo faves: Wilco, Ben Harper, Animal Collective, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Bonnaroo thoughts: “Everybody has different flavors, and you want try them all.”
Danny, 28, Gainesville
Real-world gig: Political science student and Pizza Hut delivery driver
Miscellaneous: He’s volunteering for waste management / recycling organization Clean Vibes. Like “medics in the heat of battle,” the gloved volunteers will pick up an estimated 600 tons of waste. Makes hula hoops and juggles for fun, too.
Bonnaroo faves: Erykah Badu, David Byrne, Galactic, Rodrigo y Gabriella. (Not a fan of Phish per se, but had to check them out since, “some people seem to be willing to sell their kidneys to get a ticket to their tour,” he said.
Mike, 28, Orlando
Real-world gig: Pizza delivery driver and student at Valencia Community College
Bonnaroo favorites: Nine Inch Nails, the Mars Volta and the Decemberists (he was bummed those last two were scheduled against one another).
Bonnaroo thoughts: “It's just always a fantastic time with great people all around. There's at least nine or 10 bands I’ve wanted to see, and many more that I get turned on to, which I otherwise may never have even heard.”
Marty Cheeba and the Basement Warriors
Who they are: A band from Clearwater
Bonnaroo thoughts (and words the band lives by): "If you don’t create all kinds of music, then everyone is not listening."
Miscellaneous: They’ve dubbed the computer on whch they create their music the “magic box.” Check ‘em out at myspace.com/basement09.
