Meet the local bands playing at Sunday's Vans Warped Tour

Every year, the Vans Warped Tour offers local and regional artists a chance to perform at every tour stop through their Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands contest. This year is no different, as a handful of local artists will take the stage Sunday in Vinoy Park.

The weird thing is, most of them aren't exactly local.

But still, that's no excuse for not getting to know some of the extremely talented Florida acts on the bill. While there are already a couple of Florida bands on the bill -- Ocala's A Day To Remember, Tallahssee's Go Radio and recent Equal Vision Records signees Set It Off of Tarpon Springs -- here are some of the lesser-known bands to watch out for on Sunday:

-- Sailing With Ghosts, above, a spacey, proggish metalcore outfit from Fort Myers whose online 2010 album Lithographs in Perspective contains the awesome-sounding song titles Canis Lupus, Marty McFly Was A Hard Ass and the cowbell-utilizing Tom Hanks As A Cowboy.

-- Us Vs. Them, a group of clean-cut high school buddies from Naples who play melodic, hooky pop punk. They've only placed a couple of songs online -- Landslide and Better If We Do -- but both are seriously catchy, in the vein of Hellogoodbye or plugged-in Plain White T's.

-- DEATH-DEFY, an ass-kicking modern grunge outfit in the vein of Disturbed or Bullet For My Valentine.

-- Dreamer, an Orlando emo-grunge-punk outfit with great metallic vocals and musical chops. Glass Body is a pulsing blend of emo and a hint of hair metal, like a supergroup comprised of Thursday and Foo Fighters.

-- Finally, a band from Tampa Bay: Dead Cat Lounge, who are old-school punk favorites in Tampa Bay. Click here for more on them.
