Metal cover of Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' a YouTube hit for University of Tampa student
How many times have you heard Lady Gaga's Bad Romance and thought to yourself, "You know what this song needs? More face-melting metal riffs."
Thankfully (cue the inspirational college-commercial music) the Univeristy of Tampa is building solutions for these and other pop-music problems of tomorrow.
Eric Calderone, who will graduate Saturday with a bachelor's degree in music, has drawn more than 450,000 sets of eyeballs to a YouTube video of his metal cover of Bad Romance. It sounds like the Scorpions meets Iron Maiden meets Avenged Sevenfold. Most parents can only dream that their children graduate college with such a marketable skill.
The 25-year-old New York native -- who has also created versions of Ke$ha's Tik Tok and Take It Off and (be still our hearts) Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up -- posted the video in October and immediately learned he had that day's fourth-most-watched YouTube video. Not that this surprised him.
“I’m a rocker at heart," Calderone said in a university news release, "so that’s how I hear those songs in my head.”
That's awesome. Is it too late to let him deliver a commencement speech?
