MGMT coming to Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater

Here's a sentence you never thought you'd never read: MGMT is coming to Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Yes, you read that correctly. The weirdest, freakiest, most-blogged-about alt-dance-pop-rock group of the past couple of years is performing at one of Tampa Bay's most prim and austere concert halls. The gig is Oct. 28; tickets go onsale Friday at noon, and they're a pretty reasonable $25, $35 and $45. Kuroma will open.

Our brains haven't hurt this much since we tried to listen to Congratulations without the use of mind-altering psychotropics.

So just to recap, in the month of October alone, Tampa Bay and Orlando will get visits by MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Matt and Kim, The National, Yeasayer, Flaming Lips, Built to Spill, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Born Ruffians, Electric Six and School of Seven Bells. Let's all agree not to complain for a while about cool new indie bands not coming here, okay?

If you simply can't wrap your brain around the idea of hearing Time To Pretend or Kids or Brian Eno at Ruth Eckerd Hall, you can always head to Orlando; MGMT is performing at Hard Rock Live on Oct. 25. Click here for details.
