Michael Jackson's final indignity: A 'Thriller' dance party at Whole Foods
Pop quiz. You know a fad is played out when:
1. It plays a prominent role in a forgettable Jennifer Garner movie.
2. It turns a jailhouse full of Filipino criminals into worldwide celebrities.
4. It is 2009, and the fad occurred in 1983.
The answer, of course, is 5: When it hits Whole Foods.
Yes, a Whole Foods in Sarasota is re-enacting Michael Jackson's Thriller video with a dance party on Friday. What's wrong with this picture?
Since his death in June, there have been skate parties, disco nights and a world record attempt to commemorate him, but the Fuzion Dance Artists want to recreate Thriller and they need you. It doesn't matter if you are a professional dancer or have no experience, the troupe is seeking multi-generational dancers to participate in a sort of "flash mob" performance of the famous dance. Fuzion will provide the instruction, you just provide the enthusiasm. The event is at 6 p.m. Friday at Whole Foods, 1451 First St., Sarasota. The cost is $10 to enter, which includes instruction, performance, snacks and entrance to the Last Call Gallery.
