The Mountain Goats coming to Crowbar in Ybor City

January is a perfect time to listen to warm indie folk-pop artists like Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, The Shins, Grizzly Bear and Iron and Wine

But since none of them are coming to Tampa anytime soon, we'll happy take the Mountain Goats.

The California-bred, North Carolina-based indie rock outfit, whose sweet ballad Love Love Love still gets decent play on our iPod, will perform Jan. 25 at Crowbar. Nurses will open the show. Tickets are $14-$17. Click here for details.

Among indie rock fans, John Darnielle is a true thinking man's, um, thinking man, delivering catchy songs so simple you almost overlook their poetic lyrics and lush orchestration. Their fans are ardent enough that Darnielle was once a guest on the Colbert Report, and in 2010 they signed to Merge Records, home to Arcade Fire, Spoon and She & Him, among others.

Now the question becomes: Would you be more excited or less excited if Ybor City were being invaded by ACTUAL mountain goats? We can't decide. Discuss amongst your friends.
