My Orlando Calling picks: The Raconteurs, Kid Cudi, Blake Shelton and ... ?
A few weeks ago, I attended Day 1 of the Deluna Fest in Pensacola Beach. And I remembered the problem with massive music festivals: There are two many stages. For every awesome act you get to see (Weezer, Matt and Kim, Stars) there's another you have to miss (Cake, Givers, A-Trak).
This weekend, I'll be at the inaugural Orlando Calling festival at the Citrus Bowl. I've been studying the lineup for weeks now, and while I’ll do my best to see everyone, I know push will come to shove at some point, and I'll have to miss some bands I really want to see.
So here's my plan: Five artists on Saturday and Sunday -- not counting headliners the Killers and Bob Seger -- that I think I most want to see. It's not a perfect solution, but as festival vets know, you can't see everything. You have to pick and choose. (Click here for my story.)
I'm not saying the Raconteurs, above, are inherently better than the Roots -- I'm just saying, since I'm forced to choose between the two, I'm gonna have to go with Mr. White. Nor am I suggesting Michelle Branch is better than Robert Randolph and the Family Band -- it's just my own personal pref. That's what surviving a festival is all about -- making your choices and plotting your own itinerary.
