Natalie Merchant talks Lindsay Lohan, 'SpongeBob SquarePants' and what might be her last tour for a while
Natalie Merchant does not know who Lindsay Lohan is.
That's the immediate takeaway from Sean Daly's revealing interview with the 10,000 Maniacs frontwoman, who is touring for the first time in seven years behind her new CD, Leave Your Sleep.
Told who, exactly, Lindsay Lohan is -- and why she's been in the news lately -- Merchant sounds like she doesn't regret retiring from the spotlight.
“This form of voyeurism is cannibalizing someone’s misfortune,” Merchant said. “It’s a way of dehumanizing someone. We are all just fragile, flawed individuals.”
Spoken like a true poet. Merchant performs at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 N McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. Price: $35-$60. (727) 791-7400. Click here for tickets.
